Conferences and Workshops
In this section you will find information about academic events organized by the department, whether they are regular conferences, past conferences or conferences planned for the future.
Argumentation Conference Brno
This international multidisciplinary conference on alternative methods of legal argumentation has been held every two years since 2011. It is dedicated to exploring alternative methods of legal argumentation - especially those that are not regularly used in practice - and to opening up a space for debate describing law and its impact on society from the perspectives of other scientific disciplines. It provides a unique space for the exchange of current professional views in an international context.
In addition to the main theme, the conference consists of four workshops, each specializing in a specific method of studying legal argumentation.Formal Methods in Legal Reasoning
The workshop provides a platform suitable for discussing alternative ways of structuring and presenting legal arguments. Likewise, it addresses argumentation leading to the removal of ambiguity from natural language and increasing the scope of its possible automatic processing while preserving its natural form and general intelligibility.
Law and Literature
This workshop aims to create a space for discussion on the contemporary applicability of literature in law and legal studies. It enables the exchange of findings among lawyers, legal academics, experts and academics from different social science disciplines. Participants will also discuss how the results can be applied in practice.
Law and Language
Modernity and postmodernity in legal theory and criticism have brought language and law into close proximity. Criticisms related to language, imagination, narrative or rhetorical devices have found their way into analyses of legal argumentation and justification, which is reflected in the content of this workshop. The aim is to provide a space for discussion of these and related issues in the context of legal argumentation.
Law and Visualisation
Today's society is becoming increasingly visual thanks to the rapid development of information and communication technologies. The workshop will therefore focus on both the theoretical aspects and the practical implications of the visualization of law. Participants are encouraged to share their views and experiences on the use of images in legal communication. In particular, the impact on speeding up legal communication, its complexity and its limitations (i.e. legal interpretation of images) can be discussed.

The workshop is usually thematically focused, with one or two guests presenting their scientific publication and then discussing it with the audience. For those unable to attend in person, remote access is always available via MS Teams. International speakers are also welcome at the meetings.
