Theory and History of Law

Doctoral Program

The department also offers a Ph.D. program, which falls under the joint auspices of the Department of History of State and Law. It focuses on research in the fields of legal theory, legal history and Roman law. Students not only acquire in-depth theoretical knowledge in these areas, but also the skills and opportunities to actively develop it further. The program therefore includes publication in high quality academic journals. A successful graduate of the program should, among other things, be able to generate new ideas that advance legal scholarship and reflect on the applicability of legal scholarship to practice.

It is not necessary to become an expert in all areas to successfully complete the program. During the course of their studies, students can decide which scientific direction they wish to take and, in this spirit, choose the related professional subjects within the framework of their individual study plan.

In the near future, the program will also be available in English and for international students.
